Fish of the Day – Foureye Butterfly Fish

The Foureye Butterfly Fish have a black spot, surrounded by white, on their tail to mimic an eye. This confuses a predator as it would think the Foureye will flee in one direction, but in fact, flees in the opposite direction. The Foureye Butterfly’s real eye has a black stripe through it making it hard to distinguish.

This cute fish mates for life and is often seen in pairs. They are quite good swimmers and can manoeuvre in tight spots, especially when avoiding intrepid scuba photographers!
